So, how does your character get to be aboard the ship? There are basically two ways. Most of Bdellium's crew, passengers ... inmates? ... wake up one morning in a strange room (or even in their own room on occasion) within the belly of Bdellium. And there they usually stay, wandering the changing decks, looking for a way out, looking for answers. Rarely someone will simply step through a door in one world and walk onto the Bdellium. Maybe you were always on board but never realised? Though its often best to avoid such philosophical questions on this ship - you may not like the answers...
To join simply email the GMs with an opening post of your character "joining" the Bdellium. Try and include some kind of character description as well as a description of the room(s) or circumstances that prove something is wrong (we're not in Kansas anymore Toto!). We are mainly looking for good creativity and imagination here, as this is a major requirement, but obviously we'll need players with some degree of grammar and spelling skill.
Although there is no real limit on characters, character races or settings, we are trying for a generally "fantasy" type genre/theme. Please just bear that in mind and perhaps slant your descriptions in that direction (e.g. if you really want to play an alien startrooper, think how a 12th century farm worker might see them). Then also remember that you can not always guarantee things (weapons, gadgets, magic) will work the way you expect, so think carefully; guile and cunning may be more important here then strength and firepower...
Obviously, due to the free-form nature of this game, it is mostly suited to a more mature player. Not necessarily for the content (although this is likely to be a side issue) but because the total freedom allowed will not suit many players who may be used to tighter focus and direction. That's not any kind of criticism or "elitism". Think carefully before applying, this kind of ultra-freeform game will not suit everyone.
You are welcome, and highly recommended, to lurk on the list before you join in (or even apply). Get a feel for the game, and if it is suitable for you.
